"On November 3, the American Homebrewers Association (AHA)â€"which this year is celebrating its 40th anniversaryâ€"hosts the 20th annual Learn to Homebrew Day, an opportunity for homebrewers to draft their non-brewer friends and family to learn how to make beer at home. Hundreds of lively, educational events are held at homes, breweries, shops and clubs worldwide. Over 300 local celebrations and more than 4,000 participants are expected for this year's celebration both in the U.S. and abroad."

GABF 2018: What Else is Happening

With new additions to the event, more beer, more exhibitors, and more of everything, the 2018 Great American Beer Festival promises to amaze and confound attendees as never before. If you go, plan ahead: breweries are organized alphabetically this year in the Denver Convention Center, unlike years past that clustered brewers by region and geography.
There are still tickets available for Thursday on Thursday! - another big change from past years, when the event sold out in minutes.
But there's tons to do beyond GABF, and almost everyone is planning some kind of shindig.

Blue Moon Founder Opens New Brew Operations

Blue Moon founder and 32-year beer veteran Keith Villa retired from MillerCoors earlier this year, but he didn't give up making beer (or beer-ish substitutes).
He and civil engineer wife Jodi previously announced that they were starting a new beverage company called Ceria Beverages, and will make cannabis-infused non-alcoholic craft beverages that contain THC at a new operation in Arvada. Brewbound did a nice story here, and Keith said in a press release in March:
“I’m ready to introduce another high-impact brand to the industry again, this time with a new line of custom cannabis-infused craft beers. Today, the opportunity and the demand are here, inviting Americans to enjoy a more social way of consuming cannabis - by drinking rather than by smoking it or through ingestion of edibles.â€
But the Villas are not stopping there. An additional craft beer brewery called Donavan Brewing Company is slated to begin delivering beer any day, pending licensing approval from Colorado DOR. They are not planning a taproom anytime soon, and will concentrate initially on making beer by-the-keg for self-distribution to Denver bar and restaurant accounts.
25-year-old daughter Catherine Villa is learning from dad's extensive brewing experience, and will eventually become the head brewer for Donavan. 21-year-old daughter Marie will assist with marketing, as the parents concentrate on the new Ceria Beverages which are planned for initial release late this year.
